Translation engine
Google is free for everyone; members can also choose Azure, DeepL, AI, and AI (batch) for more natural translations.
Translation quality depends a lot on which engine you use. The free tier’s Google translation is plenty for everyday viewing; members can switch to stronger engines for more natural results.
Available engines
| Engine | Membership required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Real-time, reliable—great for daily viewing | |
| AI | Member | Context-aware translation—closest to the meaning (primary engine) |
| AI (batch) | Member | Translates the whole video at once—prep ahead, then watch |
| Azure | Member | Backup engine with natural tone |
| DeepL | Member | Backup engine, strong for European languages |
How to choose
- Switch engines in the Settings tab.
- For watch-as-you-go, use Google or AI.
- To prep the full video translation before you watch, use AI (batch).
About usage limits
Azure and DeepL are mainly backup engines. Quota is shared across all members (not per person). AI and AI (batch) are the primary member translation engines. When any engine hits its limit, you’ll see “quota exceeded”—switch to Google or try again later.
